There are different ways of
sharing in the MSOLA mission for Africa.

  • Commitment for life. Becoming a Missionary Sister of Our Lady of Africa, dedicated fully to the mission in Africa.
  • Lay Associate. Sharing the charism and mission of the MSOLA, living with them in a community in Africa for a limited period of time.
  • Lay Affiliates. Sharing the charism of the MSOLA, participating in their mission, while going on with your work and your life.
  • Benefactors. Participating financially, to allow the mission of the MSOLA in Africa to continue.
  • Lavigerian groups. Different independant groups following the charism of Lavigerie, inspired by the life of the Missionaries of Africa and the MSOLA.

Sr. Gloria Sedes is a nurse working in Chad. Here we see her with two friends.

Commitment for life

Today's young people from different countries, cultures and nations, are ready to answer God's call to dedicate their life to his people and to build God's Kingdom, becoming a Missionary Sister of Our Lady of Africa (MSOLA).

Every year a group of young women answer this call and join the MSOLA community.

After a time of preparation they make a commitment to dedicate their life to God, by sharing their life and profession with the people of Africa and living in an MSOLA community. The first commitment is for a year renovable for five years.

After this, they commit their whole life to God and to His people.

Lay Associates to the MSOLA

They are lay persons associated to the MSOLA in their apostolate in Africa: young women desirous of sharing the mission of the MSOLA and their community life for a time, in the name of their faith.

The MSOLA sisters open their communities to
young lay women, in response to a demand

For the MSOLA, to welcome these young people is a way of expressing their love without expecting any return… as they share their missionary charism, their love for Africa, their life of prayer, their house, their friendships, their knowledge of the milieu… with these young women coming from other countries to meet Africa and its people.

The community of El Kabbaria (Tunis) eats a couscous with two young women making an experience in Africa

This is a way for many of these communities of participating in the Missionary Animation of the Congregation.

Affiliate Members of the MSOLA

They are lay people, who live christian commitment participating in the mission of the MSOLA, by sharing their apostolic spirituality and their missionary charism in order to become bearers of the Gospel in their own milieu.

The way in which the lay affiliates share in the mission of the MSOLA and live this commitment varies from country to country.

Some participate in the Missionary Animation and in any other activities of the MSOLA, others just share their interest and prayer, and others live the spirit of the MSOLA and of Charles Lavigerie, their founder, through different commitments in their parish or in other organizations or services.

Benefactors

They are persons who share economically in the mission and apostolate of the MSOLA in Africa. Their contribution makes it possible for the MSOLA to live their mission in Africa, and allows them to be missionary reaching the African people through the different projets in which the MSOLA are involved.
