Missionary Sisters of Our Lady of Africa (MSOLA)

MSOLA LAY ASSOCIATES

women desirous of sharing the mission and the life
of the MSOLA for a time, in a community in AFRICA, in the name of their faith.

This collaboration with the Missionary Sisters of Our Lady of Africa,
can be a source of enrichment for the person concerned
and the community, as well as for the local Church where the lay person will
live her mission.

A good preparation and a mutual knowledge is necessary, for the person
as well as the welcoming community.

A serious discernment is needed, to help the lay person to clarify her
motivations and the welcoming community to see the way of integrating
her in their mission.

You have the possibility of sharing our life and mission in
a community in Africa.
This requieres a time of knowledge and a time of preparation

Meet some of the MSOLA lay associates that have lived a time in Africa:

Dominique training teachers in Mauritania

Dominique Nève, from Belgium, spent three months in Nouakchott, where she shared in the training of some
teacher assistants. She experienced the solidarity of the Mauritanians and the strength of life in a world where
life is very difficult.

" The first thing that comes to my mind is the experience of meeting a host of extraordinary people, of receiving an
unbelievably warm and kind welcome: from the Sisters, from the parish, from the Guides and the Marian Youth, from
the choir -- but also just simply from the people on the street, in the bus... in fact, just everywhere!

My experience was very enriching, particularly on the professional level. It was certainly not easy to train a teacher
assistant in three months, but I think we have had good results. The children have benefited a lot and that is the most
important.

In addition, I was able to make wonderful discoveries about the country's culture, thanks to the people (eating customs,
public holidays, daily life...). Above all, I experienced a solidarity that by far, surpasses our western individualism, as well
as the incredible strength of life in a world where, paradoxically, life is not easy. This is truly another world with a culture
which is so 'human' that one has a lot of difficulty 'landing' back home again."

Conchi, a doctor spends her holidays in Mozambique

Conchi is a Spanish doctor, working in a hospital in Madrid. After having
participated in different missionary camps in Spain and in Marocco, in 2001
she decided to spent her holidays in Africa with the Missionary Sisters of
Our Lady of Africa.

She went to Espungabera (Mozambique) where she helped Sr. Odile Stribby,
a doctor working with the population very much dedicated to preventive medicine
and to health basic care. Conchi helped her during her stay in Espungabera.
They visited the villages, animated workshops for the health assistants and
treated patients.

The experience was so good that she has gone back in 2002, to spend her
holidays in Espungabera, a very isolated area of Mozambique, where the MSOLA
have a community.
